At this time, I am conducting lessons either in my home or via Zoom. I am fully vaccinated for COVID19, but if you are not, we can wear masks. Travel to your location can also be negotiated.

My Teaching Philosophy

At every stage of studying music, there are many things to enjoy! Although it takes patience and time to develop skill on a stringed instrument, we can have fun during the learning journey.

Proper physical form is very important, and I demonstrate this often. Thanks to the great training I received from my teachers, I have never had any playing-related injuries.

Students are given exercises to progressively develop their awareness, strength, flexibility and control.

We explore how to create a beautiful tone and vary the dynamics.

We discuss the history and context of each piece we work on. What story does it tell?

All of these things are geared toward the student’s level - whether they are still in the earlier stages or are already advanced players.

Through ear training games and exercises, we practice the building blocks of rhythm and harmony.

With regular practice, patience, and persistence, you or your child will definitely be able to make music!

Please contact me for more information, or you may purchase a lesson package and I will contact you for scheduling.

I am available for workshops and masterclasses as well as private lessons.

My teaching qualifications

I have been immersed in the art of music my entire life, and I enjoy sharing my love of music and my skills with others. My mother began teaching me the piano at age five, and at age seven, I began violin lessons. When I was twelve, I decided to drop the piano in order to focus on the violin. I am very grateful to have had master violin teachers who were also internationally-known performers: Fredell Lack (Houston, Texas), and Szymon Goldberg (Philadelphia, PA). In 1990, I graduated with my Bachelor’s Degree from the Curtis Institute of Music, the world-renowned conservatory in Philadelphia.

Since 1988, I have been working as a professional musician, playing in symphony orchestras, chamber music ensembles, and as a solo violinist. Currently I am working independently as a composer and performer, living in the Richmond neighborhood of San Francisco. You can read more of my story on my Biography page.

Since the mid-1990’s I have taught private students. From 2010-2015, I taught at Mills College in Oakland, Ca. Now I am opening my studio to offer private lessons and ensemble coaching for motivated students, of any age 7-100. Adult beginners, amateurs, or professionals are most welcome. I also conduct master classes and workshops.
